Many of Maryhurst’s volunteer opportunities require successful completion of an application and three background screens. Many will also require training with the Volunteer Coordinator. You must be at least 21 years old and no longer in high school to work directly with the children at Maryhurst.

Help Maryhurst collect resources and supplies for the children we serve. Maryhurst Donation Drives are listed on the Donation Drive page on the Maryhurst website. Great opportunity for students needing service hours.
Spread Holiday Cheer
Perfect for any group or individual at any age. Bring holiday cheer to the children at Maryhurst by donating personalized Valentine’s Day cards, donating Easter eggs, Easter baskets and Easter candy, purchasing pumpkins and candy for Halloween, or participating in our Holiday Gift Drive in November.
Birthdays and Graduations
This opportunity is perfect for any group or individual at any age. Provide a card with a special message for a child’s birthday each month. We will provide you with a list of names for that month for any of our children who are celebrating a birthday throughout our agency. Donate a graduation card and/or gift to our children graduating from high school or middle school. We graduate eligible students during all semesters.
Help Our Foster Care Program
Place a sign in your yard or business to help promote our foster care program. Or, invite a representative from our foster care program to speak to your church or civic group about opportunities for fostering or adopting children. Room & Closet Organizer
Help Maryhurst organize supply closets & resource rooms. This volunteer opportunity would be available during working hours, and could be scheduled anytime Monday – Friday 8:30am-5:00pm. You must be at least 21 years old and no longer in high school to volunteer.
Mentoring at Maryhurst
Build a lasting relationship with a child in need of love and support. We are looking for volunteers who are able to make a weekly, year-long commitment to be mentors to children. You must be 21 years old or older to be a mentor. Car insurance verification required. Completions of training and successful application process required.
Party for a Cause
Help spread the word about the wonderful work Maryhurst does in the community. At your next birthday or holiday party ask your guests to bring gifts for the children at Maryhurst. We can provide you with a list of items. We can also provide you with materials for your guests to learn about our mission and the girls in our care. If you choose, a Maryhurst representative can be present to talk with you and your guests and answer any questions or can make arrangements to pick up the items after your party.
Help organize and staff the Maryhurst Boutique once a week during school hours. The Boutique offers our girls the opportunity to earn points during the school day, those points are used to purchase items in the boutique. All items in the boutique are donated by the community and we would also need help collecting donations. You must be at least 21 years old and no longer in school to volunteer.
Each Sunday from 2:00pm – 5:00pm Maryhurst hosts family engagement opportunities for our children and involved family members. We are looking for volunteers to serve as hosts. Volunteer roles would include; welcoming families, providing refreshments, playing games with children of family members while other family members visit, and generally making sure families have what they need to make their visit comfortable. You must be at least 21 years old and no longer in school to volunteer.
Help with Special Events
Help us with our special events throughout the year. We need help collecting donation, selling event tickets, distributing flyers or posters, sharing our events on social media, and soliciting sponsorships and auction items.

Adopt a Cottage Volunteer
This volunteer project should have a minimum of 3 volunteers. Your group can choose to work with our girls weekly, bi-monthly, monthly, or quarterly. We ask that your group commit to a minimun of a year with your assigned cottage.You will be assigned a specific cottage on our Dorsey Lane campus based residential treatment program; our community based residential treatment homes located in Fern Creek and in the Clifton Neighborhood; or in our psychiatric residential treatment cottages on the Uspiritus Brooklawn campus in Buechel. You will be working with 10-15 girls (size depends on assigned cottage). Volunteers will plan the approved project and provide supplies, materials, or resources for the project. You must be at least 21 years old and no longer in high school to volunteer.
Give the kids at Maryhurst a birthday to remember!
Pick a month and plan a birthday party for all the children having a birthday that month. (10-20 children). The number of kids will vary each month. Volunteers will host the party and provide all supplies and decorations. You must be at least 21 years old and no longer in high school to volunteer. This project is great for volunteer groups.
Spruce up Maryhurst
Help us brighten our campus and our children through painting, landscaping, planting flowers, and other facility projects throughout the year. There is a minimum of five people per group of volunteers.
