23rd Annual Celebratory Luncheon This Wednesday, May 15th
(Louisville, KY – May 14, 2013) Maryhurst kicks off its 23rd Annual “Journey of Hope” luncheon this Wednesday, May 15, at 11:00 am at the Kentucky International Convention Center. The annual fundraiser highlights Maryhurst’s work with Kentucky’s abused and neglected children, as well as pays tribute to its many generous supporters and the accomplishments of its alumnae.
Licia Priest will be presented with the Alumna of the Year Award as she exemplifies Maryhurst’s mission for its residents to overcome life’s challenges, achieve personal success and assist others in need. Priest arrived at Maryhurst in the 1980’s as a teenager, and since that time, has become an acclaimed artist whose work has been exhibited at the J.B Speed Museum of Art, the University of Louisville, Brown-Forman Corporation, and a host of galleries nationwide. Priest is an art instructor for pre-K through grade 12 students with training in American Sign Language, which allows her to provide assistance for the deaf and hearing impaired. She is also a spiritual counselor and group leader for individual Bible studies at the Louisville Metro Corrections facility.
This year’s keynote speaker is Jane Beshear, First Lady of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. In her many roles as a businesswoman, educator and community leader, Mrs. Beshear has dedicated her life to the service of others throughout the Commonwealth. The Mistress of Ceremonies is Melissa Swan, News Anchor for WHAS 11. In honor of May’s National Foster Care Month, several foster care families will be in attendance and recognized at the luncheon.
