Healing shouldn't require navigating systemic barriers. Maryhurst Renewal partners with children, adults, and families who are hurting to find the right combination of support, clearing obstacles to success at home, at school, and in the community. Our outpatient clinical team delivers traditional one-on-one, group, and family counseling directly within convenient and comfortable locations.

Cedric, a Maryhurst Renewal client

Client success profile — outpatient care

Real-world proof of healing

Long-term stability Cedric, age 14

Cedric has survived structural hardships that no young person should ever have to face, including chronic homelessness and the devastating loss of his father. At school, his unresolved trauma manifested as intense struggles with interpersonal relationships, resulting in aggressive behaviors that brought him dangerously close to total expulsion during an especially difficult period.

Treatment plan

After moving in with his grandmother, Cedric was matched with a dedicated counselor from Maryhurst Renewal, our youth and family wellbeing program. Meeting consistently over a four-year period, Cedric and his Renewal therapist focused intensely on practical tools he could lean on whenever he felt upset. Together, they learned how to channel heavy, chaotic emotions into healthy coping strategies and creative outlets. As Cedric notes, “I still get angry, but what I work on with my therapist helps me deal with it.”

Outcome

By working collaboratively with his grandmother and his Renewal care team, Cedric has completely turned his academic trajectory around. He is currently acing his classes, building a career in beatmaking, and actively touring college campuses with a long-term goal of becoming a professional nurse.
