Maryhurst helped her realize how very wrong it is for anyone to feel like that.
Theressa participated in classes, work and service projects. Through them, she learned organization, compassion, understanding, respect and the importance of hard work. Although she sometimes outwardly resisted the rules and regimented lifestyle demanded by the nuns and staff, deep down she appreciated them and knew it was what she needed. She describes her time with Maryhurst as “eye-opening.” It was here she began to learn what she now hopes all women will learn: that you are worthy, you are special, you do matter, and there is more to you than what the world assumes.
“Maryhurst was a place of refuge for me,” she says. “I was too young and too immature to embrace the complete blessing, but it was a great beginning that kept me safe.”
That beginning has led to a happy ending. These days, Theressa is the co-founder and director of Unleashed Ministry, where she helps women find direction in their lives and grow in their relationship with the Lord. Most importantly, she has a wonderful husband, two sons, one daughter-in-law and three beautiful grandchildren. Theressa believes wholeheartedly that who she is today and the accomplishments she has achieved are a result of her time at Maryhurst.
“It helped me see people cared, even though I had been rejected by family and friends,” explains Theressa. “They looked at who I was, not what I did, and helped me grow.”
