Maryhurst Supporter Named Biz First Volunteer of the Year

Thank you, Kathy Olliges!

Many of you may be familiar with Maryhurst’s Butterfly Garden hosted on the Dorsey Lane campus, but do you know the amazing volunteer that spearheaded its creation? Kathy Olliges, a local businesswoman, longtime donor, and current board member introduced the Butterfly Garden in 2016 that has brought joy to many. May through October, Kathy, and the young women in Maryhurst’s program plant and care for herbs, flowers, and vegetables. Under Kathy’s leadership, the “Garden Group” continues to grow and flourish.

This program is an especially meaningful one, because it gives girls in our residential program a chance to invest time and energy into cultivating a living thing – from seed to full-fledged produce. This teaches nutrition, long-term investment, and coping & relaxation.

We are not the only people to notice the way that Kathy has gone above and beyond for Maryhurst. Louisville Business First will recognize Kathy as its 2020 Volunteer of the Year as part of its Partners in Philanthropy program. Kathy, along with all other awardees, will be honored on August 20th at the virtual event. Event details to come, but you can stay tuned to our social media channels or this event page to be the first to know.

Kathy, thank you for all that you have done for Maryhurst! You are making a true impact in the lives of the young woman served at Maryhurst
