Meet Mr. Drew

He's our December 2019 Shepherd of the Month

We give an award each month to a staff member who goes above and beyond their job duties to help the kids and families in our program. This month, the honor goes to our custodian Andrew!

Here’s what the December Shepherd of the Month award means to Andrew Hager in his own words:

“It didn’t take me long, maybe my first or second day, for me to realize Maryhurst wasn’t like any job I’d had before. When I say that, I don’t mean that my job duties – fixing things around campus, tidying up, that sort of thing – are all that different here. I did similar stuff at a university before this. But what makes it different is that my work here has, like, capital-P Purpose. What I’m doing matters to the kids who are living here, doing work to grow and be better every single day. When I see the kids just living their lives with the staff here, I know that they deserve a place that’s presentable, feels safe, and IS safe.

So yes, they make a lot of messes. We all do. But if I can make it one less thing to worry about so they can be comfortable and focus on themselves, their family and their future… man, that’s the stuff that makes me happy to be here.”
