Earlier in February, counselors from our residential program led an expedition to Frankfort for Children's Advocacy Day. During the trip, girls from our residential program were able to meet with policymakers, nonprofit workers, and other supporters who came together to advocate for the rights and protections of children in Kentucky. Here's how the organizers, Kentucky Youth Advocates, describe it:
Children’s Advocacy Day at the Capitol began in 2004 as an effort to unite advocates from across the state to raise their voices on behalf of children’s safety, health, education, and economic well-being. Hundreds of advocates from counties across Kentucky now gather at the Capitol in Frankfort every year to rally on behalf of children and to promote priorities on the Blueprint for Kentucky’s Children agenda.
Specifically, the girls got a firsthand look and the chance to listen in on those supporting changes & providing resources on their behalf. They were able to meet with & hear from the Secretary of State as well as tour the Capitol building.
